Investment in stewardship helps a business demonstrate respect for its customers and the wider community and helps generate respect for the business’s values.  As such, investments in this area reinforce commitments to corporate social responsibility.

Communication

Letting other stakeholders know what you aim to achieve, why you want to achieve and what you have already achieved will create respect and support for your business and strengthen your brand image.  Ultimately, good communications can also help a company demonstrate that it is meeting its sustainability criteria with benefits for shareholder and stakeholder relations, plus positive implications in the regulatory and compliance arenas.

Marketing

Too little attention is paid to the marketing dividends of stewardship. Apart from bolstering your company’s brand image; building a reputation for responsibility among customers enhances the business’s value proposition. Stewardship also focuses on products allowing the benefits of those products to be emphasised alongside the recommended practices.

Any campaign aiming to improve safety can provide common ground for stakeholders.  Building on these common elements fosters development of useful (and sometimes unlikely) partnerships, as well as strengthening existing alliances.
