Dr Rob Carlton works with industry and NGOs in the area of sustainable agriculture.  Within this sphere Rob concentrates on climate change and stewardship.

Having developed an interest in terrestrial ecology and tropical ecology as an undergraduate he took part in Project Wallace in the equatorial forests of Sulawesi, Indonesia before embarking on doctoral research on chemical ecology in Scottish peatland communities.

Upon completion of his doctorate he embarked upon a career in the agrochemical industry.  After a period managing a team of graduates investigating the fate of crop protection products in crops, soil and water he moved to Germany to take on a senior role in the company’s insecticide regulatory group.  Following a merger he moved to the new company headquarters in France and worked on a number of challenging regulatory issues in the USA, Africa, Latin America and Europe.

Rob started his own company following the acquisition of Aventis CropScience.  Working closely with the newly formed Bayer CropScience his business developed a core competence in practical pesticide stewardship.  Once this was established he developed a professional interest in climate change and agriculture and is currently involved in the generation of tools for policymakers and land managers.

Rob also gives lectures at a number of universities in Lyon and collaborates with academics on papers investigating the relationship between agricultural systems, land use and agricultural green house gas emissions.

Rob Carlton is married with two young children and lives in the Drome, France.
